Temporary Nonimmigrant Visas for the United States

For those individuals that want to travel to the United States merely for tourism or activities incident to business, the United States has waived the requirement of obtaining a visa for citizens of many countries. This exception for obtaining a visa is available to citizens of countries that are apart of the Visa Waiver Program ("VWP").  For citizens from those countries all that is required is that they complete an Electronic Application for Travel Authorization ("ESTA") and be approved.
For those wishing to travel to the United States for other purposes (ex. studying, training, journalists, crew members, etc.), a us visa is required before travelling to the United States.
If you wish to travel to the United States for activities not allowed under the VWP and would like to know more about usa visa requirements, please do not hesitate to contact my office to discuss possible visa options.

Important Notice: As of 2015, the following persons of Visa Waiver Program countries are no longer able to travel with an approved ESTA:

  • Nationals of VWP countries who have traveled to or been present in Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, or Yemen on or after March 1, 2011 (with limited exceptions for travel for diplomatic or military purposes in the service of a VWP country).

  • Nationals of VWP countries who are also nationals of Iran, Iraq, Sudan, or Syria.

Instead, travellers will need to obtain a visa from a U.S. Embassy before travelling to the United States.  The appropriate visa category will depend on the purpose for this trip.

For more information, please feel free to contact my offices.
